This easy 15-minute creamy tomato basil sauce is better than jarred! Made with simple ingredients for a rich, velvety, and fresh pasta sauce.

  • Total Time: 15
  • Yield: 4 servings (makes about 2.5 cups)

Ingredients

  • 1 can (28 oz) whole peeled tomatoes

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

  • 3-4 large cloves garlic, peeled

  • 1 tsp salt, plus more to taste

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (whipping cream)

  • 1 large bunch fresh basil, leaves torn

Instructions

  1. To a blender, add the entire can of tomatoes (with their juices), olive oil, garlic cloves, and 1 tsp salt. Blend on high until completely smooth.

  2. Pour the smooth tomato sauce into a large skillet. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat and cook for 5 minutes.

  3. Reduce heat to low. Stir in the heavy cream and warm through (do not boil).

  4. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the torn basil until wilted.

  5. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt if needed. Use immediately over your favorite pasta or store for later.

Notes

  • Blending is Key: Don’t skip blending the sauce until completely smooth. This creates the perfect texture and quick-cooking base.

  • Fresh Herb Finish: Adding the basil off the heat preserves its bright green color and fresh flavor.

  • Cream Warning: Do not boil the sauce after adding the cream, as it could curdle.
